Heart-shaped Ang Pao 爱心红包

Hello everyone,
It’s been a while since our last project. This time round we are gonna teach you something really sweet for the Chinese New Year – craft your own Heart-Shaped Ang Pao (Chinese Red Envelope)!
Since young I’ve always been intrigued by origami, and I thought I could do something really special for the upcoming Chinese New Year, which also happens to coincide with Valentine’s Day! After some engineering, I came up with this heart-shaped ang pao to symbolise this really special occasion.
How often do the 2 special occasions fall on the same day? This heart-shaped ang bao succinctly symbolises the significance of the union of the 2 really special occasions. Of course, you may also use it as an envelope for your Valentine’s love note.

Difficulty Level ★★
Materials:
1. 80 gsm A4 Size Red Colored Papers
2. Stick Glue/Double Side Tape
3. Ruler
4. Cutter Knife/Scissors
5. Paper Scorer
6. Cutting Mat
Method:

Step 1
Download and print template over red colored papers.
Don’t forget to fit to A4 size when printing.

Step 2
Cut out template outlines with cutter knife. Make sure you cut only along the definite lines, and not the dotted ones.
Remember to cut a slit between the Chinese character and words “Happy New Year”.

Step 3
Use a paper scorer to score and fold along the dotted lines
(using a paper scorer is not mandatory but if you don’t, folds won’t turn out as neat).

Step 4
Face printed side down as shown and fold left flap inwards.
You should now have side C facing you. Then fold bottom left corner upwards.
You should also see side A.

Step 5
Fold the right flap inwards on top of side A and C.
Then push the bottom right corner inward such that you lay side B beside side A.

Step 6
Apply glue (or double-sided tape) on sides A, B & C, in order to stick the flaps together and form your envelope.

Step 7
Apply glue (or double-sided tape) on the reverse side of flaps D & E, and fold them into the pocket to paste.
When done, you should see a neat pocket.

Step 8
Fold down the top flap.
You should be able to see the Chinese character on the top of the ang pao.

Step 9
Push in top left & right corners, as well as the center slit to form a beautiful heart shape.

Step 10
Insert your gift money / love note.
Seal the ang pao by applying glue along the edge of the bottom half of the heart shape.
